Jordan Livingston - Private |
Private Jordan Livingston is my Great Great Grandfather. He enlisted 21 December 1861 in Wilkes County, NC and was assigned to the 11th NC Infantry, Co. B (The Bethel Regiment) on 31 March 1862. The 11th NC was a part of The Pettigrew-Kirkland-Macrae Brigade. Most of their service in the early parts of the war was in and around Wilmington, NC, and the Petersburg, VA areas. The Brigade consisted of the 11th, 26th, 44th, 47th, and 52nd NC Infantries. Pettigrew''s Brigade was in Heths Division, A.P. Hills Third Corps when the Gettysburg Campaign opened. Jordan was wounded at Gettysburg on the first day and left in the hands of the enemy. Pettigrew''s Brigade was one of the few units that saw action during all 3 days at Gettysburg. The were a major player in Pickett''s Charge. Jordan made his way through several hospitals, one in Charlottesville and then on to Richmond. He returned to service with the 11th in early 1864 and spent time in and out of various hospitals throughout the remainder of the war. His service records indicate that he was taken POW on 3 April 1865 in Richmond when the Union Army occupied the city. I have no further info on him. Family records indicate that he was never seen or heard from after the war. However, recently after contacting some other relatives it is possible that he returned to NC and even fathered another child. Anyone with info on this soldier or his unit, please feel free to contact me and we can share info.
